Vol. 474 No. 2

Written Answers. - Teacher Appointments.

Micheál Martin

Question:

77 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education if she will appoint a visiting teacher for the deaf in the Kilkenny/Waterford area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2668/97]

The visiting teacher for the area referred to by the Deputy retired with effect from 31 August 1996. My Department's inspectorate, which has responsibility for the management of the visiting teaching service, encountered some difficulty in securing the services of a suitable replacement teacher. However, I understand that this difficulty will shortly be resolved as part of a wider re-organisation of the service in the area.

I have recently allocated a further two posts to the visiting teacher service. These additional posts will be advertised shortly.
