Question:

107 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total amount paid out in 1996 under the various agricultural income supports to County Mayo farmers; the total number of farmers in County Mayo; the number of farmers who receive less that £1,000, £2,000, £3,000, £4,000 and £5,000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2638/97]

The latest data available from the Central Statistics Office shows that there were 14,908 farms in County Mayo in 1991. The following tabular statement gives details currently available in respect of the major direct income payments to farmers in 1996. Further information will be sent directly to the Deputy shortly.
