Vol. 474 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Brian Cowen

Question:

246 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry in respect of total payments to farmers from all sources under the CAP, the number of farmers in receipt of £1,000 or less; £1,000 to £2,000, £2,000 to £3,000, £3,000 to £4,000, £4,000 to £5,000, £5,000 to £10,000, £10,000 to £15,000, £15,000 to £20,000, £20,000 to £25,000, £25,000 to £30,000, £30,000 to £35,000, £35,000 to £40,000, £40,000 to £45,000, £45,000 to £50,000, £50,000 to £55,000, £55,000 to £60,000, £60,000 to £65,000, £65,000 to £70,000, £70,000 to £75,000, £75,000 to £80,000, £80,000 to £85,000, £85,000 to £90,000, £90,000 to £95,000, £95,000 to £100,000, and more than £100,000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2778/97]

The information sought by the Deputy in the categories specified in respect of headage payments, cattle and sheep premia and arable aid payments is being processed and will be sent directly to him shortly. These payments account for the great bulk of CAP payments to farmers.

Payments in respect of other schemes are not readily classifiable according to size of payment or, where such classification is possible, cannot be related to headage, premia and arable aid payments.

Brian Cowen

Question:

247 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will provide in tabular form, by county and with total national figures, the number of herdowners who were paid in 1996 under the ten-month special beef premium, 22-month special beef premium, ten-month and 22-month special beef premium, slaughter premium, suckler cow premium, headage, including beef cow premium, and ewe premium; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2779/97]

The information is given in the following table in respect of the number of herdowners paid in 1996 under the various 1996 headage and premia schemes; the 1996 BSE package of measures to compensate farmers for loss of income due to the BSE problem; 1995 extensification premium which was paid in 1996 — this premium is normally payable in the period April-June of the year following the year of application for the various premia.

It should be noted that the figures in respect of the special beef premium scheme relate to the number of applications paid rather than herdowners. Applicants under this scheme were allowed to apply on up to four separate occasions under each of the ten month and 22 month age categories.
In most cases the same herdowners would also have received balancing payments under the 1995 schemes during the early part of 1996. The following is the table:
Number of herdowners paid in 1996 in respect of 1996 schemes, BSE Package and 1995 Extensification Premium.
