Vol. 474 No. 3

Written Answers. - Publication of Reports.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

50 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment when the report into the collapse of investment intermediary, Mr. Tony Taylor, will be completed; and whether he intends to fully publish the report. [2920/97]

I understand that the detailed report of the authorised officer appointed by the Minister for Commerce, Science and Technology, to carry out an investigation into the collapse of the Taylor group of companies, will be submitted very shortly.

Until such time as I have had sight of the detailed report I am not in a position to state to what extent it will be possible to publish the report. Section 78 of the Investment Intermediaries Act, 1995, sets certain limitations on the publication of information obtained by virtue of a search warrant. In addition, in deciding upon the issue of publication, I would wish to have regard to the need to avoid creating any hindrances to authorised officers obtaining all the information they require in any future investigations or in respect of any legal action that might be prosecuted on foot of this or future investigations.
