Vol. 474 No. 3

Written Answers. - Capital Gains Tax.

Ivor Callely

Question:

71 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the amount of capital gains tax received from the sale of houses in private rented accommodation in each of the years from 1993 to 1996. [2866/97]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the information requested by the Deputy is not recorded in such a manner as would enable this category of taxpayer to be readily identified. To obtain the information it would be necessary to identify the cases and carry out a detailed examination of all the relevant documentation relating to the years in question. Such an exercise could be carried out only at a disproportionate cost.
