Question:72 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the total legal costs incurred by his Department in 1995 for professional legal services; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2867/97]

The total expenditure incurred by offices under my aegis for professional legal services in 1995 was £6.050 million. The expenditure was met from the following Votes: Office of the Attorney General, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Office of the Revenue Commissioners, Office of the Ombudsman, Houses of the Oireachtas and the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General.
The cost in relation to the Office of Public Works cannot be accurately obtained in the time allowed. I will forward the information to the Deputy as soon as possible.
