Vol. 474 No. 4

Written Answers. - Health Board Funding.

Andrew Boylan

Question:

95 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Health the total amount of moneys awarded to the North-Eastern Health Board in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3195/97]

Limerick East): The amount of funding approved for the North-Eastern Health Board in 1996 was as follows:

£ million

Revenue

103.820

Capital

5.400

Total

109.220

The revenue or non-capital funding determined for the board reflects the provisions, including pay issues, inflation and other special items, contained in the original Health Estimate and the Health Supplementary Estimate. It is a matter for the board to determine the distribution of its overall resource across the service programmes when framing its service plan.
The capital funding was provided to finance expenditure on the board's projects which were included in the 1996 capital programme, including developments at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, Louth County Hospital, health care units at Dun-shaughlin and Monaghan, and various projects in areas such as community health, psychiatry, the elderly, services for the handicapped, etc. Minor capital funding to allow for the replacement of items of equipment and the execution of maintenance and fire precaution works was included in the capital figure.
