Vol. 474 No. 6

Written Answers. - Health Board Funding.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

123 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to a funding deficiency at the Eastern Health Board to cater for a minibus or other transport for participants on the special hospital care programme (details supplied); the total amount available for this service in each of the years from 1992 to 1997; the number of participants covered for transport by the funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3816/97]

The specific request for minibus transport arrangements outlined by the Deputy will be considered by the Eastern Health Board in the light of any additional funds which will be made available to the board in the near future. The Eastern Health Board has always endeavoured to assist people in availing of a day service and will continue to work with the agency referred to by the Deputy to facilitate its clients.

Information on the total amount of funding provided for this service from 1992 to 1996 is outlined in the following table.

1992

£29,000

1993

I understand from the board that in addition to the increase in the number of clients, a new centre was opened in Loughlinstown which required additional transport runs out and back each day. This increased the cost but provided a more comprehensive service to those attending the services. Details in relation to the funding for this service in 1997 are not yet available.
