Question:

125 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health if he will have investigations made into the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork has not been given an early appointment to a hospital in Cork to have an angiogram carried out; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this person has a serious heart ailment and has been informed that he will be called in July 1997, by which time the person's health will have further deteriorated; if he will have arrangements made for this person to be admitted to hospital for the angiogram without further delay; and if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that the person claims that if he was a VHI member he would not have to wait until July 1997 for medical assistance. [3818/97]

Limerick East): As the determination of appointments for angiogram procedures is a matter for the hospital authorities in the first instance, I have asked the general manager at Cork University Hospital to investigate the position regarding this patient. Given the particular circumstances of this case, I have requested that he reply to the Deputy directly, as a matter of urgency.
