Vol. 474 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Placement.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

159 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education the provisions, if any, which have been made for a child (details supplied) in County Cork in order to ensure that he is allowed to exercise his right to full time education in a local school. [3507/97]

Every effort is being made by my Department to ensure that the child in question is allowed to exercise his right to full-time education.

The child has been enroled in a local primary school since the last term of the 1995-96 school year. The child is integrated into an ordinary class in the school for specific periods as appropriate.

In addition, and in order to meet the child's particular educational needs, my Department has sanctioned ten hours' tuition per week by a trained teacher. The tuition is provided in the school and a room in the school has been made available for the child and the teacher for this purpose.

The Department of Health has also sanctioned a child care worker to assist the child and my Department maintains regular contact with the school and health board personnel in this case.
