Vol. 474 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

171 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has for the future of St. Enda's school in Monaghan; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3587/97]

St. Enda's national school, Scotshouse, County Monaghan, is a three-teacher school and has a current enrolment of 85 pupils. A recent examination of the school's future viability has concluded that St. Enda's is likely to remain a three teacher school for the foreseeable future.

A building project to provide St. Enda's with upgraded accommodation has been included in my Department's capital building programme. In view of the urgent need to improve the school building, the architectural planning of the project will be completed without delay. Officials from my Department are meeting with the school authorities today to discuss progress on the project.
