Vol. 474 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

216 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Justice the ratio of gardaí to head of population in Leixlip, Celbridge, Maynooth and Naas, County Kildare. [3835/97]

The detailed deployment of Garda personnel and resources to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that Celbridge, Maynooth and Naas form part of the Carlow-Kildare garda division while Leixlip forms part of the DMA southern division.

The following table sets out the ratio of gardaí to head of population on a divisional basis.

However, I should point out that the population figures used are taken from the 1991 census as the 1996 census has not yet been finalised.
