26 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Defence the plans, if any, he has to introduce a module dealing specifically with human rights, refugees and related matters into the training programme for Irish soldiers in view of their increasing involvement through the UN in humanitarian crisis missions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Instruction on international humanitarian law is included on the syllabi of the majority of Defence Forces career courses, from recruit training onwards.

Additional instruction on human rights awareness is given to personnel preparing for overseas service as appropriate to their mission.
