6 Mr. Leonard asked the Taoiseach the average size of farm holdings in the country. [3851/97]

The latest available information relates to June 1994 when it is estimated that the average size of farm holdings was 27.7 hectares — 68.5 acres.

7 Mr. Leonard asked the Taoiseach the number of farms currently owned by unmarried farmers. [3852/97]

It is estimated from a special joint analysis of returns from the 1991 Censuses of Population and Agriculture that approximately 47,000, or 28 per cent, of the 170,000 farms recorded in that year were owned by single persons.
