Vol. 475 No. 1

Written Answers. - Department Staff.

Ivor Callely

Question:

152 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the number of permanent staff in his Department and each State agency under the aegis of his Department; the number of temporary staff; the number of staff on contract; and if Government staffing/embargo guidelines are adhered to in his Department and each State agency in this regard. [4520/97]

The staff in my Department, which includes the Family Mediation Service, comprises 69 permanent staff, one temporary staff and five fixed-term contract staff. Three of the permanent staff are employed on a part-time basis and two are employed on a job-sharing basis. The Legal Aid Board, which is a body under the aegis of my Department, has 166 permanent staff. In addition, it has three staff employed on fixedterm contracts and 57 temporary staff members. Six of the temporary staff are employed on a job-sharing basis. The number of permanent staff serving with the Employment Equality Agency, a body under the aegis of my Department, is 14. Four of these staff members are employed on a job-sharing basis. These figures reflect the numbers of persons employed and do not constitute the number of posts involved. The Government staffing-embargo guidelines are adhered to by my Department and by the bodies which operate under the aegis of my Department.
