19 Mr. Foley asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he will make a grant available for the establishment of a North Kerry literary and cultural centre at Listowel, County Kerry, under the cultural development incentive scheme in view of the international reputation of North Kerry writers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The closing date for receipt of completed applications for assistance under phase II of the cultural development incentives scheme was 10 January 1997. A detailed assessment of all applications received, including the application in respect of the North Kerry literary and cultural centre project, is under way at present. Following the completion of the assessment process, the advisory committee for the scheme will make recommendations to me regarding the level of funding, if any, that should be offered to individual projects. The purpose of this process is to ensure that, taking all factors into account, the best projects emerge and are offered support.
