Vol. 475 No. 3

Written Answers. - Provision of Mooring Facilities.

Brendan Smith

Question:

22 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if his attention has been drawn to the urgent need to provide additional mooring facilities at Ballyconnell, County Cavan; the proposals, if any, there are to undertake this work in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4479/97]

A survey of boat traffic and the use of mooring facilities along the Shannon-Erne waterway indicated that the existing facilities will require to be augmented in a number of locations including Ballyconnell. The provision of extra mooring facilities will be examined in the light of funds available to me for the development of inland waterways throughout the country. However, the expansion of the existing facilities at Ballyconnell is unlikely in 1997.
