Vol. 475 No. 3

Written Answers. - Commemorative Events.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

29 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the plans, if any, in place for the celebration of the millennium; the number of staff in his Department who are assigned to working on the millennium plans; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4691/97]

As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 37 of 8 October 1996, vol. 469, cols. 1453-56, inclusive, of the Official Report, I have made a presentation to the Government on the commemoration of the millennium and it is now a matter for the Government to decide on how best to address the millennium, the resources and staffing that should be applied to the task and which Department will be responsible for leading the millennium project. The matter is under active consideration by the Government and until such time as the Government makes its decision on the matter I cannot give any further information to the Deputy.
