Vol. 475 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Monuments.

Michael Ring

Question:

57 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the plans, if any, the Office of Public Works has to develop a historical round tower (details supplied) in County Mayo as a tourist focal point. [4746/97]

I am informed by the National Monuments and Historic Properties Service of my Department that routine maintenance is regularly carried out at the round tower concerned and that the site is in reasonable state of presentation. While round towers are significant landmark features access to them needs to be limited having regard to safety considerations. The National Monuments and Historic Properties Service has no plans for development works at the site.
