Written Answers. - Polling Day.

Robert Molloy

Question:

160 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment the consideration, if any, which will be given to the holding of the next general election on a Sunday; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4033/97]

Peter Barry

Question:

172 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment if a Sunday is being considered as polling day for the next and future general elections; if soundings have been made about the suitability of such a day; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5119/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 160 and 172 together.

I refer to the reply to Question No. 72 of 22 January 1997 which sets out the position in this matter.
