Vol. 475 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

181 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment the housing allocations made recently in respect of County Louth; if he will give details of location, house type, cost per dwelling house, site cost and overall site cost in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5143/97]

A statement showing the number of houses which local authorities — including Louth County Council, Drogheda Corporation and Dundalk Urban District Council — are authorised to build or acquire in 1997 has been placed in the Oireachtas Library. Capital allocations in respect of their 1997 housing programmes will be notified to local authorities as soon as possible.

It is for local authorities to determine the composition of their 1997 programmes as between the building of new houses and the acquisition of existing houses. The types of houses to be built and their location are also matters for decision by the individual housing authorities, having regard to the findings of their 1996 assessment of housing needs.

Particulars of the cost of sites and houses will not be available until authorities seek budget cost approval for individual schemes or submit details of houses constructed in accordance with the cost ceilings applicable to them.
