Written Answers. - Iraqi Beef Market.
I am in touch with the Arab Irish Chamber of Commerce about arrangements for a technical delegation to visit Iraq, with a view to having that market reopened to Irish beef. Apart from marginal amounts, beef exports to Iraq have not taken place since August 1990 and trade with that country is still subject to UN sanctions. The only trade permissible is the sale of foodstuffs and of humanitarian goods in exchange for oil products. This trade must first be approved by the UN Sanctions Committee. These conditions apply to beef as to all other products.
