Vol. 475 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

John Ellis

Question:

273 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will grant a farm electrification grant to a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim. [4913/97]

An application from the person concerned was received in my Department on 4 January 1996. Additional information in support of the application was requested on 8 January 1996 and was supplied by the applicant on 24 June 1996. The application was then assessed. It did not meet the criteria for eligibility and was not approved as farming was not the applicant's main occupation and principal source of income. The applicant was informed of this decision. When the ESB subsequently approached the applicant to quote standard terms of supply the ESB was informed that it had been decided not to go ahead with supply.

The applicant then appealed the Department's decision to disallow grant aid. The case was reconsidered and additional information was requested on 14 August 1996. To date this information has not been forwarded by the applicant.
