Michael Bell

Question:

37 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment the cost, if any, which would be incurred for dwelling houses supplied by group water schemes or private schemes in County Louth, which have made an application for taking in charge by Louth County Council over the past five years, in view of the elimination of water service charges; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3472/97]

Question:

187 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of money that has been given in grants towards the provision of group schemes in County Louth; the number of schemes which are at the various stages of development; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5233/97]

Michael Bell

Question:

188 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment the number of private group schemes that have been taken in charge in the last five years by Louth County Council in the Cooley Peninsula and the numbers waiting to be taken in charge; the number of households who will benefit in the Cooley Peninsula from the elimination of water charges; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5234/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 37, 187 and 188 together.

The taking in charge of group water schemes is a matter between the relevant local authority and the groups concerned. Information on the number of schemes taken in charge by Louth County Council and the number of households within the county which are connected either directly or indirectly by way of group schemes to the council's public water supply network is not available in my Department.

Group water schemes grant payments in County Louth for the five year period 1991-96 amounted to £525,000 approximately. Work is currently under way on four schemes in the county, and a further 11 schemes are at various stages of planning.
