Vol. 475 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Liam Aylward

Question:

109 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in putting into operation the new eight-bed dialysis unit which has been lying idle for some time at Ardkeen Regional Hospital, County Waterford; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that large numbers of people are travelling from Waterford, Kilkenny and the south east to Dublin several times per week at great personal hardship to avail of this treatment in spite of the fact that an adjacent unit is lying idle; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5094/97]

Limerick East): I understand from the South Eastern Health Board that the dialysis unit at Waterford Regional Hospital will open on 3 March 1997. The delay occurred due to technical problems with the water treatment plant.
