Vol. 475 No. 7

Written Answers. - Prisoner Transfers.

Tony Gregory

Question:

184 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice when a person (details supplied) will be transferred to the Mater Hospital, Dublin 7, in view of his serious medical condition. [5613/97]

It is longstanding practice not to comment in detail on individual prisoner's cases and I do not intend to depart from this precedent on this occasion. The Deputy may, however, be assured that all prisoners have access to the full range of medical facilities both within the prisons and, as required, at outside hospitals either as inpatients or as outpatients. All decisions regarding the treatment of individual prisoners are of course a matter in the first instance for the prisons medical officers.
