Vol. 475 No. 7

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Mildred Fox

Question:

191 Ms M. Fox asked the Minister for Justice if she will provide an extra full-time garda for the Dunlavin area of County Wicklow. [5691/97]

The detailed deployment of Garda personnel and resources is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that Dunlavin is policed as part of the community policing initiative in operation in the Baltinglass district and, as part of this, there is one garda stationed at Dunlavin. I understand that a sergeant at Baltinglass has responsibility for policing in Dunlavin in conjunction with responsibility for policing in Ballytore. The whole area is, of course, also covered by mobile patrols.

The Garda authorities have informed me that they are satisfied with the level of policing in the area and that there are no plans at present to allocate additional personnel to Dunlavin. However, the situation is being monitored on a continual basis to ensure that an effective Garda service to the area is maintained.
