Vol. 475 No. 7

Written Answers. - Income from Fisheries Lettings.

Eoin Ryan

Question:

249 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the income from the lettings in respect of the fisheries upstream of the estuary fisheries on the Owenduff and Owenmore rivers, County Mayo, which are owned and let by the Land Commission on a long lease; the terms and conditions under which these are let; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5980/97]

Records in the Land Commission indicate that from about 1960 onwards fisheries acquired by the Land Commission were managed on an agency basis by fisheries division which later became part of the Department of Forestry and Fisheries and, later still, part of the Department of the Marine. Under an agreement dated 14 July 1989 the beneficial interest in all fisheries and fishing rights vested in the Land Commission was transferred to the Central Fisheries Board. Consequently, my Department has no information relating to the income from, or the terms and conditions of, lettings of these fisheries and fishing rights.
