Vol. 476 No. 1

Written Answers. - Structural Funds.

Ivor Callely

Question:

53 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the likely percentage level which Dublin will receive from the current round of EU Structural Funds; the percentage level Dublin received from the last round of EU structural moneys; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6425/97]

Under the Community Support Framework for Ireland 1994-9 Structural Funds are channelled through operational programmes covering key sectors of the economy. This was also the case under the previous round. The operational programmes are national sectoral programmes and do not contain specific regional allocations. The amount of funding which a region receives is determined by a combination of factors which include sectoral needs as determined in the operational programmes and demand from the regions for the various schemes of assistance under the different operational programmes.

The Dublin region is estimated to have received 22 per cent of the total Structural Fund allocation to Ireland under the 1989-93 round. Under the most recent projections of expenditure for the current round the Dublin region is projected to receive approximately 25 per cent of the total Structural Fund allocation.
