Vol. 476 No. 1

Written Answers. - Physiotherapy Service.

Noel Treacy

Question:

57 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Health if he will appoint extra physiotherapists in the Western Health Board area in order to deliver a proper professional and efficient community-based service in addition to the excellent professional service currently being provided by physiotherapists; the date on which this will be done; the amount of money being allocated in this regard in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6408/97]

Limerick East): £1 million is being provided this year for the development of services for people with physical and sensory disabilities. The proportion of this funding to be allocated to each health board is currently being considered by my Department and boards will be notified of their allocation in the immediate future. When the Western Health Board has been notified, it will discuss with its co-ordinating committee on physical handicap services the priorities for the allocation of the additional funding. One of the services to be considered in this context will be the community-based physiotherapy service.
