Vol. 476 No. 1

Written Answers. - Irish Blindcraft.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

58 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Health the relationship, if any, between his Department and Irish Blindcraft; if a board exists to run Irish Blindcraft; whether this organisation is in receipt of public funding from his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6410/97]

Limerick East): Irish Blindcraft which receives funding from my Department, is currently administered on behalf of my Department by the National Council for the Blind (NCBI). This was an interim arrangement while the future of Blindcraft was considered. It has now been agreed in principle with all the interests involved that responsibility for Blindcraft will transfer from my Department to the Eastern Health Board. Arrangements are being put in place to establish a new board to administer Blindcraft and to oversee the transfer.
