Vol. 476 No. 4

Written Answers. - Designated Disadvantaged Schools.

Kathleen Lynch

Question:

87 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Education the number of primary schools designated disadvantaged for staffing purposes; the number of these schools which have early start pre-school facilities; and the number of these schools which do not have such facilities, excluding exclusively senior schools. [7178/97]

Of the 320 primary schools currently included in the disadvantaged areas scheme, 250 schools have been designated for receipt of additional ex-quota concessionary teaching posts. A total of 293 such posts have been allocated to the 250 schools in question.

Of the 250 schools referred to, 36 are also included in the early start pre-school programme. The remaining 214 schools are not currently included in the early start programme. In the time available, it has not been possible to identify the number of these latter schools which are exclusively senior schools.
