Vol. 476 No. 5

Written Answers - Higher Education Grants.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

163 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education the funding, if any, which is available for a person who wishes to do a one year compressed course in a recognised university in England; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7483/97]

With effect from the 1996-97 academic year, students undertaking eligible full-time undergraduate courses of not less than two years duration in a university or third level institution, which is maintained or assisted by recurrent grants from public funds in another EU member state, may apply for a means tested maintenance grant under the 1996 student support schemes. As the student referred to by the Deputy wishes to pursue a course that is only of one year's duration, no financial assistance is available under the student support schemes operated by my Department.
