Limerick East): The administration of the registration system is a matter for An t-Árd Chláraitheoir — Registrar General — of Births and Deaths and for local Registrars who operate under his general direction.
An t-Árd Chláraitheoir has advised that the Births and Deaths Registration Acts 1863 to 1994 and regulations made under these Acts prescribe the procedures for the registration of births, including the correction of errors in entries in the registers. In relation to the particular matter raised by the Deputy, I understand that An t-Árd Chláraitheoir has asked the hospital, in which the birth took place, to confirm the sex of the person to whom the entry refers and, on receipt of that information, that An t-Árd Chláraitheoir will be in a position to issue the appropriate instruction to the relevant local registrar.
