Vol. 476 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Status.

Seamus Kirk

Question:

288 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Education when she will appoint a concessionary post to Scoil Chlochair Mhuire (details supplied) in Dundalk, County Louth. [8324/97]

The school in question was one of 16 schools granted disadvantaged status for funding purposes only in December 1996.

The decision to grant disadvantaged status to the schools in question was taken in recognition of the fact that these schools were dealing with the same general population as other schools in the area which had previously been granted disadvantaged status.

I am not in a position at present to allocate additional concessionary teacher posts to schools in the disadvantaged areas scheme. In the event of such posts becoming available, the needs of the school in question will be considered.
