Vol. 476 No. 7

Written Answers. - Health Board Services.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

36 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Health the current position regarding the application by the North-Eastern Health Board for assistance, funding and otherwise, in respect of the need to address young people at risk; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5160/97]

Limerick East): The application referred to by the Deputy has been discussed in detail between officials of my Department and the North-Eastern Health Board. I understand that the board will be making it a priority in their child care developments for 1997, details of which will be finalised shortly.

I would like to add that I am aware of the particular problems of young people at risk in the Dundalk area. I appreciate the need to take proactive initiatives to combat these problems and I am fully supportive of the North-Eastern Health Board in their efforts in this regard.
