Vol. 477 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

39 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of payments made in respect of headage, premia and arable aid payments in 1996; the number who received payments over £100,000; if he will give comparative figures for 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6808/97]

The number of payments made in 1996 under the various headage and premia schemes was 1,010,092. This includes balancing payments under 1995 and earlier years' schemes as well as payments made under the 1996 schemes. Comparative figures for 1990 are not readily available but the number of payments made in 1990 under the 1990 schemes was 209,986. The number of payments over £100,000 issued under the 1996 schemes was 21. There was no arable aid or setaside scheme in 1990. Consequently no payments in excess of £100,000 were made in that year.
