Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Teacher Training Cources.

Helen Keogh

Question:

158 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Education if she will lift the embargo on the numbers admitted to the Bachelor of Education home economics programme in view of the huge numbers of applications for this degree; and if she will give St. Angela's College, Sligo, sanction to provide alternative non-teaching degree programmes to meet the high demand for such programmes in home economics. [8700/97]

A review group, under the auspices of the Higher Education Authority, is at present examining the question of teacher supply and demand in the second level sector, including teachers of home economics.

When the report of this review group is available, the intake to the B.Ed. course, etc., in this case will be re-examined.
