Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Tallaght Regional Technical College.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

212 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Education when the decision to build the Tallaght Regional Technical College was announced; and the Minister for Education at that time. [9205/97]

Initially, according to my Department's records approval for a regional technical college for the Tallaght area was announced in 1981 by the then Minister for Education, former Deputy J.P. Wilson. Subsequently in June 1985 the then Minister for Education, former Deputy Hussey, made the announcement that five major building projects would go ahead which included a regional technical college at Tallaght. Following a period of deferral, the Minister for Education, Deputy O'Rourke, in June 1989 announced that the building of a regional technical college at Tallaght would commence that year.
