Vol. 477 No. 5

Written Answers. - Courts Accommodation.

John Browne

Question:

242 Mr. Browne (Wexford) asked the Minister for Justice if she will acquire Castlebridge House in County Wexford, which is currently owned by Wexford County Council, for family court facilities in view of the increasing demand. [9501/97]

It is my Department's policy to provide a network of family law court facilities as part of the courts building programme in all major towns throughout the country so that the public will have access to the courts in their own locality. The provision of family law facilities for Wexford will be considered as part of an overall upgrading of court facilities in Wexford.

The provision and maintenance of courthouse accommodation is the responsibility of the relevant local authority. My Department would naturally be interested in looking at any property which Wexford County Council consider suitable for the provision of the necessary court facilities.
