Micheál Martin

Question:

116 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education the direct costs of the Commission on School Accommodation for the period to 31 December 1996; the estimated cost of services and facilities given by her Department during this period; the cost of media and public relations consultants directly employed for the period; and the cost of media and public relations consultants provided by or through her Department or her office. [10321/97]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 115 and 116 together.

The Commission on School Accomodation is currently staffed by four officers and is located in my Department's offices. Two members of staff have been assigned from within my Department while the remaining two have been seconded from within the education sector.

The procurement of all services and appointment of consultants by the commission is carried out in accordance with Government procedures.

The direct costs of the commission in the period to 31 December 1996 amounted to £184,837.15. As a number of the services, accommodation, security, cleaning etc., required by the commission are provided by my Department as part of its general provision of such services it is not possible to furnish a figure solely in respect of the commission. No costs were incurred by the commission or by my Department specifically on its behalf in respect of media and public relations consultants.
