Vol. 478 No. 1

Written Answers. - Education Schemes.

Tony Gregory

Question:

174 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education if a school (details supplied) in Dublin 7, following its successful amalgamation, will now be considered urgently for inclusion in the early start scheme, the breaking the cycle scheme, the teacher counsellor scheme and the home-school liaison scheme in addition to its current staff level, in view of the most disadvantaged urban area it services with well in excess of 90 per cent of the children from social welfare and unemployment backgrounds. [10677/97]

I have no plans at present to extend the schemes to which the Deputy refers to additional primary schools.

All of the schemes in question are being monitored and evaluated on an ongoing basis. The question of further expansion will be considered in the light of these evaluations and having regard to available resources.

When I am next in a position to expand the schemes to which the Deputy refers, the needs of the school in question will be fully considered.
