Vol. 478 No. 4

Written Answers. - Land Commission Trusts.

Noel Treacy

Question:

225 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason for the delay in having a property (details supplied) in County Galway legally transferred; the date on which this will be done; if his attention has been drawn to the unanimous community support for this proposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11317/97]

I am aware of this proposal and I have agreed to the change described but no warrant in this regard has yet issued. The delay arises from the fact that a condition of the change of use is the execution of a form of indemnity by the trustees in relation to two compensation claims already received and other potential claims.

The variation of Land Commission Trusts is governed by statutory provisions and a solicitor for the trustees is in ongoing contact with officials of my Department who are in the process of arranging the necessary documentation to comply with the law in these matters.
