Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Mary Wallace

Question:

92 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to provide a new post-primary school at Oldcastle, County Meath, to replace what is now the oldest post primary school in County Meath, built 40 years ago, in recognition of the fact that Kells, Nobber, Dunboyne and Ashbourne in County Meath have all received new schools and in view of the fact that the Oldcastle parents and teachers are concerned that they are now operating in the worst post-primary school in the county and would like to see this situation addressed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11562/97]

Following a review of the existing accommodation at St. Oliver's post primary school, Oldcastle, the Department requested that a technical assessment be carried out before any decision is made on whether to extend the existing school or provide a new school.

County Meath vocational education committee appointed an architect to undertake the feasibility study. The feasibility study was submitted to the Department and is currently being considered.

A response will be conveyed to County Meath vocational education committee as soon as possible.
