Vol. 478 No. 6

Written Answers. - Public Service Remuneration.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

23 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Finance the amount of public service remuneration including pensions for each of the year from 1993 to 1996; the Estimate for 1997; the percentage growth in each year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11672/97]

The Exchequer pay and pensions bill represents the cost to the Exchequer for the pay and pensions of Civil Servants, the Permanent Defence Forces, gardaí and teachers and the amounts which are included to pay in grants to health boards and other health agencies, non-commercial State bodies and third-level colleges. The outturn figures for the Exchequer pay and pensions bill for the years 1993 to 1996 and the Estimate for 1997 are as follows:

Changes from year to year are the result of a number of factors including pay increases — both general rounds and local bargaining — changes in numbers employed as a result of service developments and changes in the structure of employment.
