Vol. 478 No. 6

Written Answers. - Register of Births.

Helen Keogh

Question:

61 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Health if he will take into account the recently reported baby boom which shows an increase in births in the past two years in revised strategy relating to maternity care, child care, immunisation policy and so on; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11734/97]

Limerick East): The numbers of births for the years 1994 and 1995 were 47,929 and 48,530 respectively as opposed to 49,456 in 1993. I do not consider that policy in the areas referred to by the Deputy requires to be adjusted on the basis of these figures. The situation is, however, being monitored by my Department on an ongoing basis so that any necessary action can be taken.
