Vol. 479 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Education Needs.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

49 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if she will review the case of a person (details supplied) in County Louth who has a special need in relation to her speech but who due to her age is not in a position to avail of the early start programme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12337/97]

As previously indicated to the Deputy the child in question is enrolled in the Early Start Pre-school unit at Redeemer Girls' School, Dundalk, for the current school year.

I understand that the child's admission to the special language unit at St. Joseph's National School, Dundalk, is due to be considered at the unit's management group meeting later this month.
I also understand that in the event of the unit being unable to admit the child from 1 September next, the authorities at Redeemer Girls' School are willing to accommodate her at their school.
