Vol. 479 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teachers' Salaries.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

53 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Education if she will amend the rules in order that the equivalent part-time teachers in the Travellers Training Centre in Navan, County Meath, will be recognised for increments; and if she will recognise the increments already earned by a person (details supplied) in County Meath. [12356/97]

The rules or scheme concerning the position of all part-time teachers was framed following discussions with management and unions on Labour Court recommendations. Under this scheme eligible part-time teachers are employed on an annual contract. This contract is renewable subject to satisfactory performance and the continued need for the particular teaching service provided by the part-time teacher. Teachers on eligible part-time teacher contracts have pro-rata pay and conditions with permanent teachers.

As the scheme is of general application all EPTs come within its remit.
