Vol. 479 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sligo Relief Road.

Helen Keogh

Question:

147 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for the Environment when he proposes to hold a public inquiry into the W5 mid-block route inner relief road proposed for Sligo town; the current position in relation to this road; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12640/97]

I understand an environmental impact statement for the proposed Sligo relief road and a compulsory purchase order for the acquisition of property required for the scheme will be submitted to me for decision by Sligo Corporation. Notices will be inserted in the press by the corporation at that stage inviting those interested to make written submission to me in relation to the likely effects on the environment of the proposed development. In addition, if an objection is received by me against confirmation of the CPO, a public local inquiry must be held at which evidence in relation to the likely effects on the environment of the proposed development may be given. In view of my quasijudicial role in relation to both the EIS and CPO, it would not be appropriate for me to comment on any aspect of the scheme at this stage.
