Question:

194 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Education when an extra classroom will be provided for a school (details supplied) in County Galway; and when refurbishment and playing facilities will be provided; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12567/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 190 and 194 together.

The school to which the Deputy refers was formed in September 1996 as a result of an amalgamation. My Department provided grant-aid of £24,000 during the summer of 1996 in order to have essential works done to facilitate the amalgamation. The school has requested that an additional schedule of works be executed during the summer of 1997. This schedule includes an extension, refurbishment and provision of playing facilities. The requested works are relatively costly and money has not been allocated for the project in the current financial year. Officials of my Department recently met with the school management to discuss the matter. My Department will be in touch with the school. At this stage, I am not in a position to state when the work will be done.

Question:

191 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Education the current position on an extension and refurbishment of a school (details supplied) in County Galway; and when permission will be given for planning documents for this school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12564/97]

An outline sketch scheme for extension and refurbishment has been prepared in respect of the school to which the Deputy refers. A decision on allowing the project to progress further will be made within the next couple of months in the context of other priority projects. Therefore, I am not in a position at this stage to state when the project will be allowed progress to the next stage of architectural planning.
